Letters

A letter to someone who passed

Some goodbyes never get said in time. This is a quiet place to write the letter anyway, and to let one stranger hold it with you.

The words that stay

A person can be gone and still be the one you want to tell about the weather, a meal, a small ordinary day. The letter is not a performance. It is the sentence you would have said if there had been one more afternoon.

You do not have to make it beautiful. “I still set a place for you in my head” is a whole letter. So is “I'm sorry I was late.”

Letting a stranger read it

Sending it to the family is not always kind, and sometimes there is no one left to send it to. On AnyBottle the letter becomes a message in a bottle. A stranger picks it up with no history and no advice to give, only a few quiet lines back if you want them.

You can tick “Send anonymously” and sign with a pen name. Your email is never shown. Leave real names and places out of the letter itself. If the feeling is heavy, the writing page keeps a quiet line to a helpline.

Letters in that mood

When you are ready

A bottle holds up to 420 characters, about a postcard. Leave out real names and places. Write to someone who passed, or pick up a letter someone else let go.
